Summarizing UFI’s activities for 2021,Kai Hattendorf, CEO and Managing Directorof UFI says:“This year has been incrediblychallenging for everyone in the global exhibitionsand business events industry. In the past 12months, the whole UFI team has been workingrelentlessly to produce tangible data, to providepractical guidance and share best practices, tospeak on behalf of our industry in the media,to advocate, and–last, but by no means least–to offer the spaces for our industry to connectand stay in touch, both on-site and online.”“At atime where physical trade shows are restartingaround the world, we’re optimistic and believethat the resources we provide and our supportwill help the industry to a fast recovery andbeyond. Now more than ever, we need tocontinue to work together as a global industryand with governments around the world to getback to doing what we do best–bringing peopletogether!”

The months ahead will see UFI maintaining thefocus on industry recovery and the evolution ofindustry business models, with advocacy, researchand educational activities ongoing. In industrycollaborations with global umbrella bodies likethe Joint Meetings Industry Council and the“G3”partnership with fellow global trade associationsAIPC and ICCA, UFI will help to drive industrywide core projects like the“Net Zero CarbonEvents”initiative. UFI’s Global CEO Summitwill kick off the 2022 events roster, takingplace on-site in Hamburg (Germany) from26-28 January 2022. 2022 will also seethe launch of a new event, the“Asia CEOSummit”. In collaboration with AEO (UK),SISO (US), and SACEOS (Singapore), itwill take place for the first time from 4–6October 2022 in Singapore. In 2022, theUFI Global Congress will take place inOman from 14-17 November, hosted by theOman Convention & Exhibition Centre.For 2023, UFI’s Board of Directors hasselected Las Vegas, USA, as the destinationfor the UFI Global Congress.

Monica Lee-Müller(Managing Directorof Hong Kong Convention and ExhibitionCentre (Management) Limited (HML),Hong Kong) is UFI’s next President,assuming office at the end of the GlobalCongress in Rotterdam. She is joined inUFI’s new presidential leadership trioby Michael Duck (EVP – CommercialDevelopment, Informa Markets, and EVP– Commercial Development, Group atInforma Group), Incoming President 2022-23 and Anbu Varathan (Indian Machine ToolManufacturers’Association - IMTMA, Indiaas Outgoing President.
