Cheung Kong Alumni Attend NPC and CPPCC Meetings

The third sessions of the 11th National People’s Congress (NPC) and the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) were convened in Beijing in March 2010. Approximately 5,000 NPC deputies and CPPCC members participated in the meetings. Among them were 65 alumni of the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, more than last year’s 54. Their participation in the NPC and CPPCC represents the widespread social influence of Cheung Kong alumni, and their strong sense of social responsibility.

This year’s NPC and CPPCC sessions received intensive attention from home and abroad, as 2010 is a year in which China will continue to fight the international financial crisis and maintain fast and stable economic growth. It is also a critical year for China in accelerating the transformation of its economic model.

NPC deputies and CPPCC members put forward motions or proposals, oversee government work and make laws. The NPC and CPPCC meetings are also platforms for collecting public opinions. An increasing number of deputies and members are private business owners and lawyers.

The alumni of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business are not only wealth creators and social trend leaders, but also policy advisors for promoting social progress and economic development.

Co-Progress Management College Signs World Expo Contract

On March 5, 2010, Co-Progress Management College signed a contract with the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, and promised to follow the principle of preventing waste and corruption in all its preparations for the 2010 World Expo.

The contract-signing ceremony was hosted at the bureau’s news center. Hundreds of journalists and representatives of the Expo’s service providers attended the ceremony, and the leaders of the Shanghai Municipal Government and the bureau delivered speeches.

The Expo currently has 648 service providers who are responsible for delivering approximately a dozen different categories of service, including exhibition management service, ticketing, security and training. There are a total of six training providers.

At the ceremony, the bureau signed contracts with over a dozen service providers who were selected to represent the forms of services they provide. Co-Progress Management College was the only training provider chosen to sign the contract at the ceremony. The bureau will sign contracts with other service providers following the ceremony.

Co-Progress Management College is a business education and training organization committed to adding value to human capital and promoting the sustainable development of enterprises. Its predecessor is a school established in 2001 by graduates of the MBA program of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

In November 2008, Co-Progress Management College was officially chosen as the Expo’s service provider following careful screening. It provides welltailored training programs for the Expo.

Autistic Children’s Painting Exhibition

The United Nations has named April 2 as World Autism Day to raise awareness of autism. On April 2, 2010, the Beijing Association for Rehabilitation of Autistic Children hosted the third Autistic Children’s Painting Exhibition, in partnership with Beijing Zhongjian Art Gallery and Singapore Art Museum. More than 100 pieces of work by dozens of autistic children from around China will be exhibited. These paintings and works of calligraphy were sold at the exhibition and the proceeds were donated to help the families of autistic children and improve their lives.

China Interactive Touch

The National School of Development at Peking University is calling for applicants for its 2010 summer school. Under the theme of China Interactive Touch, the summer school will introduce the students to China’s economy, culture and history through carefully tailored lectures and panel discussions. The lectures will be given by distinguished professors from China’s top business schools. Students will also tour Chinese cities. The tours will provide them with frst-hand experience of China’s dynamic transformation, and a fresh understanding of local business communities and the emerging market.

Mandarin will be taught during the summer program. A basic understanding of Mandarin will facilitate the students’study and day-to-day living in China, and deepen their understanding of the Chinese culture.

The University of Melbourne’s Master of Marketing Program in Beijing

The University of Melbourne offers a Master of Marketing degree in Beijing through its business school, the Melbourne Business School. The program has been approved by the Ministry of Education of China, and offered in partnership with Beihang University. The program is an intensive part-time model designed for experienced individuals, whether marketers or not, who want to reinforce their understanding of marketing and business in today’s fast-growing local and global markets. The program is the same as that taught in Australia.

The University of Melbourne is one of the world’s top 30 universities. Worldclass professors and a Western-style of education combine to provide an exciting learning environment. The program can be completed within a single year. All classes are taught in evenings and on weekends.

METP Participants Celebrate Graduation

Alumni and participants in the EUChina Manager Exchange and Training Program (METP) met on March 31, 2010 and celebrated the graduation of the participants in the fourth METP training program. Senior representatives of the EU delegation and China’s Ministry of Commerce attended the graduation ceremony and awarded the graduation certifcates.

METP, launched in July 2006, is a five-year intergovernmental cooperation project between the EU and China in the field of international trade. Built within the dynamic context of continuously developing relations between the EU and China, the program will enhance business expertise by developing European and Chinese human resources.
