Innovation and Upgrading to Fulfill Large-scale Application of Magnesium Industry

On October 21, the “18th Annual Conference of CNIA-MG & National Magnesium Industry Conference 2015”, hosted by China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association Magnesium, co-hosted by China Investment Huihao (Holdings) Group, co-organized by China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association Magnesium and Beijing Antaike Information Development Co., Ltd, opened in Beijing. More than 300 delegates from over 100 enterprises, public institutions and research institutes attended the meeting.

As the Chinese economy bids farewell to the age of fast growth and enters the New Normal, the state government introduced a series of measures, the magnesium industry welcomes new opportunities and challenges. This meeting adopted the theme of “adapting to the New Normal to push forward magnesium large-scale application”, attending delegates conducted in-depth communication, and pooled collective wisdom, together promoted the application of magnesium smelting, processing technologies, equipment and high-end products, and propelled transition & upgrading of magnesium industry to fulfill large-scale application.

At the meeting, Ren Xudong, Executive Vice President of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, relevant officials of MIIT, Academician Zuo Tieyong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Xu Jinxiang, President of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association Magnesium, attended the opening ceremony.

In his speech, Ren Xudong said magnesium industry is a sunrise industry, it is still at its primary development stage, coupled with downward economic pressure, it’s natural to see various difficulties, but it may be temporary. In the age of today when the pressure of energy saving and emission reduction is becoming increasingly heavy, and the demand for light weight is becoming stronger than ever, as a light weight structure material, magnesium material boasts vast development prospects and huge development potentials. We have every reason to believe that, at a time when industry development is experiencing difficulty, so long as everyone consolidates confidence, prevents and controls risks, after the difficult period passes, we will embrace better and faster development on a new starting point.

Ren Xudong pointed out that in the past year, the CNIA-MG had done a lot of effective work, strived to improve industry service, intensified efforts for product popularization, strived to implement the state government’s strategic deployment of “medium to fast speed growth and mid to high-end development standard”, voluntarily sought positioning in “Made in China 2025”, guided enterprises toward independent innovation and technological progress, adjusted industrial structure for transition and upgrading, grasped the market, built platform, coordinated and supported enterprises and key projects with strategic significance for the industry, promoted whole-industry energy saving and emission reduction, and large scale application of magnesium materials, so as to provide guarantee to ensure orderly and healthy development of the industry.

He emphasized that, the year 2016 is the beginning year of China’s “Thirteenth Five Year Plan”, we must actively and steadfastly carry out work, grasp development opportunities, avoid all risks and uncertain factors, actively unfold work from the following several aspects, strive to push forward development of China’s magnesium industry, and work hard to construct a global magnesium power. Firstly, scientifically devise the development of the “Thirteenth Five Year Plan”, guide the development of the industry in the next five years, push forward the magnesium industry to fulfill leap-forward development. Secondly, propel technology progress in the industry, promote the smelting industry to make breakthroughs in energy saving and emission reduction, processing, and application. Thirdly, strengthen team construction, improve service ability and standard, rely on service methods and means in various forms to contribute advices and suggestions to the government, and remove worries and difficulties for enterprises.

In the meeting’s keynote speech, Zuo Tieyong introduced the status quo and prospects of China’s magnesium alloy development to the attending delegates, and put forward relevant suggestions targeting at existing problems in the magnesium industry development. He proposed that the “Thirteenth Five Year Plan” listed high-performance light-alloy structural material represented by magnesium alloy as key project for “development of strategic emerging industry”.

Demand of the automobile industry for magnesium is inconceivable, which promises one big opportunity for magnesium development, it is hoped to set up automobile light weight strategic alliance, promote magnesium application in automobile field.

In his report entitled “Quicken the pace to adapt to the New Normal, plan industry new positioning, grasp historical new opportunity, envision the dream of magnesium industry power”, Xu Jinxiang pointed out that it’s necessary to construct innovation achievement transformation mechanism, actively push forward industrialization of the magnesium industry’s innovation achievements, vigorously develop mixed ownership economy, optimize industrial and capital structure, truly develop common-interest stakeholder joint groups by deeming the whole industrial chain as operation foundation, and regarding maximization of market benefit as the ultimate strategic target, in order to fundamentally strengthen overall competitiveness and right of speech of China’s magnesium industry.
