Hainan’s 200,000-ton Uncoated Tinplate Base Project to Kick off

Sources from NFC Hainan Nonferrous Metals Industry Co., Ltd. indicated that, as a key project of Hainan, the 200,000-ton uncoated tinplate base project is expected to kick off in the first half of this year. Now, all preliminary works have been completed. Upon completion,the project can yield 200,000 tons of coldrolled sheets with annual production value up to RMB 1.5 billion.

Between 1992 and 1997, NFC Hainan Nonferrous Metals Industry Co., Ltd., South Korea DAEWOO Corporation, TCC Steel Corporation and Nissho Iwai Corporation jointly built Haiyu Tin Plate Factory, which has a production capacity of 100,000 tons. Between 2005 and 2006, Haiyu Company built No.2 color printing production line and No.3 lacquering production line, and made tin plate production capacity increase from the originally-designed 100,000 tons to 150,000 tons through technical innovation and technical upgrading. The 200,000-ton tin plate project (phase 2) of Haiyu Company, with a total investment of RMB 0.539 billion, was formally put into operation in 2009, enabling Haiyu’s annual production capacity of tin plate to have increased from 150,000 tons to 350,000 tons. Last year, both tin plate output and sales volume of Haiyu exceeded 230,000 tons, realizing gross value of industrial value of RMB 1.98 billion, up 25.5%y-o-y.

Since the China’s enterprises currently engaging in uncoated tinplate base are far from meeting the market needs, all uncoated tinplate bases needed for production of Haiyu Company are imported from Japan. As the output rises gradually, uncoated tinplate base is far from meeting the production demands. Therefore,NFC Hainan Nonferrous Metals Industry Co.,Ltd., together with competitive domestic enterprises related to nonferrous metals, registered and established Hainan Haixie Uncoated Tinplate Base Co., Ltd., which invested RMB 0,556 billion in building a 200,000-ton tin plate project.

According to incomplete statistics of My Steel,in 2011, China newly increased 650,000 tons of production capacity of tin plates. Moreover, a 3,350,000-ton project is under construction.Tin plate production lines under construction are mostly located in North China, accounting for more than 60% of the total tin plate production capacity.
